Meet our WJA Trade Show Sponsor – Flowplant Group

June 3, 2024  -  Water Jetting Association

Flowplant’s Group Managing Director, Steve Smith, explains why the company will have impressive equipment on display, and exciting developments to share, at the WJA Trade Show on 12th September.

Engineering has always been my passion, and leading Flowplant through this exciting new chapter has been incredibly rewarding. With a focus on innovation, team spirit, and customer-centric solutions, we’re building on the solid foundation laid by our previous management while steering Flowplant towards a dynamic and promising future.

Sponsoring the inaugural WJA trade Show Provides the perfect opportunity to reflect on our achievements over the past year, from new product developments and team expansions to being shortlisted for a prestigious industry award.

Join me as I review the strides we’ve made and explore what’s next for Flowplant.

An exhilarating journey

For more than 50 years, Flowplant has been synonymous with technical excellence, reliability, and longevity. As we embark on a new chapter following last year’s management buyout, we are honoured to carry forward this legacy while infusing new energy and innovation into the company.

Since the MBO, myself, Barry Pidgeon (Sales Director), and Ed Miles (Engineering & Quality Director) have been hard at work implementing our vision for the future of Flowplant, and it’s been an exhilarating journey to be part of.

We are infusing passion and excitement throughout the business and pushing a rolling programme of change – not just with product development, but with team culture and spirit.

This year has seen many changes within the team: restructuring existing teams to increase efficiencies, introducing new team members across the business, and driving a passion for engineering through every team member.

We’ve refreshed our company values and departmental goals, reconfigured our workspaces, and collaborated on our vision for the company. All of this has resulted in a reinvigorated team spirit that flows throughout the company and reaches every touchpoint with our customers.

‘Amazing engineering’ – customer

Our customers are certainly feeling the energy surging through the business. For example, it was great to read this recent review from Jamie Ross of Tru Flow Drainage, explaining his recent experiences with Flowplant:

“I have a very reliable Flowplant 315 van pack and a few weeks ago had the privilege of visiting the team in Salisbury. On arrival, it became clear why the product I use was so effective and reliable.

“I was shown the testing rooms, introduced to the amazing engineering teams, and also ongoing and future projects, including new van packs.

“Flowplant is a forward-thinking company that constantly wants to improve their products—all British-built and manufactured.

“It was an amazing day and also great to meet the people behind the drainage equipment I am proud to be using. Thank you, FLOWPLANT.”

This invigorated spirit is also being directed at our product range, with our amazing engineering team working on some fantastic new products and projects over the last year.

We’ve seen the introduction of boiler and plant units, our Jet Buggy, the Eco Jet 3000, and much more. All of these have been developed with our customers in mind to ensure our products work in demanding environments and make our customers’ lives easier.

A team that achieves

As acknowledged by John Bryers from Kendal Snowsports Club, who commented:

“We are extremely pleased with the unit provided by Flowplant. It will significantly improve the maintenance of our artificial ski slopes, effectively tackling dirt and moss build-up and ensuring top performance to continue to keep the experience as close to snow as possible for our members.”

Our team loves working on projects and new products. It gives a real sense of achievement to take an issue being experienced by a customer and find a solution that works. The team thinks about every detail and scenario, ensuring that the final product fits the requirement in every way possible.

In addition to team and product development, we’ve had a year that has taken us all over the world, with projects in Norway, Brazil, and many places in between.

It’s been fantastic seeing Flowplant equipment in situ, doing the job it was designed to do, and making a real difference for our customers. Project work is something our team takes great pride in. Our custom engineering capabilities are second to none, and the experience within our team is something we value immensely.

Creating engineering excellence

This was highlighted when we were shortlisted by the Pump Industry for Manufacturer of the Year. While we didn’t win the title, we were still extremely excited to have been shortlisted.

It’s a testament to our whole team, who have worked extremely hard over the last year to position Flowplant as a force within the industry.

So, what’s on the horizon for Flowplant? We will continue to invest in our team, as they are who will continue to make Flowplant stand out from the crowd.

We’re also working with the local community to nurture new engineering talent within schools and colleges through our open engineering events, which have been well received.

We will continue to focus on training, knowing the importance of ensuring a well-trained workforce within the water jetting industry. We have recently invested in our training department to build on the fantastic training already offered by the team.

Wayne Holt from Openreach summed up our training quite nicely when he said:

“The quality of the course was excellent. Our trainer, Mark Preston, was really knowledgeable about all aspects of the desilting machine.

“The theory on the course related to the practical, and everything tied in seamlessly. Safety was the main focus on all aspects of the course.

“With the excellent instruction and detail on how to use the machine, we came away feeling we could use the equipment safely and competently.”
