Water Jetting Training Cleared for Restart

The Water Jetting Association (WJA) has resumed face to face water jetting training from Wednesday 1st July.

The WJA, responsible for most water jetting training carried out in the UK, has also authorised greater use of online training, where appropriate.

Water jetting training was suspended by the WJA on 18th March 2020 in response to lockdown measures imposed by the government to try to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

The association’s Ruling Council has now approved the resumption of all face to face training, though the decision is subject to relevant changes to government Covid-19 guidelines and regulations.

John Jones, WJA Vice-President and Chairman of its Training and Safety Committee, said: “We are sure this will be welcomed news for the many businesses and organisations that rely on WJA training.

“We have moved as quickly as we can to resume water jetting training. Our decisions have been based on the need to act within government guidelines and observe a duty of care to the safety of delegates, WJA training providers and WJA-approved water jetting instructors.”

Restarting water jetting training will help companies that carry out water jetting make sure their teams have the right mix of skills to deliver services safely, flexibly, efficiently, and promptly.

The WJA has agreed that, where it is appropriate, WJA water jetting instructors can deliver elements of all courses through online webinars. Practical elements and assessment must still be carried out face to face.

The WJA has issued advice and Covid-19 documentation to training providers and instructors to ensure courses meet all relevant health and safety guidance and regulations.

Courses are subject to a Covid-19 risk assessment carried out by the training provider. They will only be held at Covid-19 secure sites. All training sites must have a sign on display stating that the training venue has been designated as ‘COVID-19 SECURE’.

The number of trainees must be limited by requirements for correct social distancing.

Measures that must be in place include: delegates being positioned at least two metres apart; no delegates facing each other; the wearing of face-coverings; and the taking of trainee and instructor temperatures using no touch thermometers before the start of each course.
