Company name: D&L Contract Services
Company representative: Danny O’Callaghan
Job title: Director

What services do you deliver as part of the water jetting industry?

We carry out all drainage services, including sewer unblocking, sewer cleaning, CCTV drainage surveys, pipe excavations and remote structural repairs, also known as patch lining.

We also use pressure washing systems to carry out above-ground cleaning, for example: gully cleaning, roof and gutter cleaning, graffiti removal and pedestrian area cleaning.

We work under contract for a lot of different companies and organisations, like housing associations, local authorities, schools and colleges. That way, we prove the value of our services and build relationships that allow us to plan for the future.

What new service developments should we look out for from you in the next year or so? Ones you can tell us about!

We have heavily focused over the last 12 months or so on pre-planned maintenance, preventing issues before they occur, which is an approach we will build on in 2026.

An example is proactive maintenance of social housing assets. Because our clients trust our recommendations, we can save them a lot of money and reduces disruption for their customers, in this case, tenants.

What are the three most important elements of service delivery for your customers and why?

Delivering great customer satisfaction, focusing on first time fixes, to save both us and clients unnecessary cost, and providing detailed, up to the minute reports of our activity. We take pride in having a culture of caring about our clients and about their customers.

What have been the business highlights for D&L Contract Services over the last 12 months?

During 2025, we’ve moved to our new head office and operational centre in Caddington, in Bedfordshire, just across the M1 from Luton. It’s expanded the reach of our services. So, we now have teams working on North London and up along the M1 corridor.

Tell us something that you think anyone outside the industry will find impressive about your products and/or services.

As we grow, we keep our small business mind set. Each job is as important as the next and every customer is important to us. It’s easy to say, not so easy to do. We work hard at building a team that shares our approach. Feedback tells us it’s working, but we can never be complacent.

What’s the biggest change in technology or process you have witnessed in your service sector in recent years?

Tool and equipment technologies have advanced rapidly in recent years, both in terms of the effectiveness and power of water jetting systems. Also, job reporting has developed exponentially. Being able to give clients live updates from site is great for them, and for us. It’s helping us to work as partners to make the right decisions and build trust.

How long has D&L Contact Services been a member of the WJA?

Five years. We made a decision to be actively involved in the WJA from day one, and haven’t regretted it for a moment.

Why did the company decide to join?

Safety for our teams, our client co-workers and members of the public has always been most important to us. It’s not negotiable. The WJA shares that same concern, and level of care for all people involved in the water jetting industry. It’s impressive.

What advantages do you get from being a member of the WJA?

Being active in the WJA gets our heads up and makes us consider what’s new and important in our industry, that we can apply in our business. A fancy word for it would be strategic vision.

Most members are businesses. They have their own self-interests. But many WJA are also willing to share a lot of expertise and experience, so we’ve learned a huge amount in the short time by being involved. And we’re willing to share a lot in return.

We also benefit from member discounts, and specific technical advice and support, for example from the WJA’s technical manager, Gordon Taylor. People who have been there, seen it and done it.

What do you think are the WJA’s key achievements?

The WJA has always moved with industry developments and has played a key role in leading them on important fronts, like safety and standard setting. It’s constantly updated its codes of practice, a process that’s accelerated in the last two years. It also listens to its members. It wants to truly represent the water jetting industry in all its forms.

Why is it important to have a member organisation for the water jetting industry?

The WJA allows us to share challenges in our industry and figure out solutions, which then leads to advice and support for members using different water jetting applications across all sectors.

It’s also important to shout about success – about value delivered by WJA members and the importance of water jetting in many industries, and the vital importance of applying it safety.

What key issues do you think the WJA should focus on over the next three years, and why?

We think the WJA should look to build an association that encourages all companies and organisations in our industry to join it, and use the experience of membership to grow and become more successful. With the right approach, it’s a very productive experience!

If D&L Contract Services was an animal, what kind would it be?

We’d be a bumblebee, or a colony of them. With a strong work ethic, community focus and shared loyalty across the whole team.
