Paul Grady HM Principal Specialist Inspector (Mechanical Engineering)

Paul is currently responsible for mechanical engineering technical input to HSE policy on Machinery Safety, Net Zero and Pressure Systems. He represents HSE on British, European and International Standards on these subjects, including work on defining benchmarks for isolation and safe intervention and statutory examination.

Previously Paul managed a team of mechanical engineers, providing support to HSE Inspectors in the Midlands, South of England and Wales.  This involved providing technical direction and advice to incident investigation and priority inspection of a diverse range of industries and sectors, such as general manufacturing, fairgrounds, waste and recycling.

Paul has a particular interest hydraulic and steam pressure systems. He was the main author of the latest revision of HSE guidance GS4 (Safety in Pressure Testing) and PM73 (Safety requirements for Autoclaves). He contributed to BS14100 control of hazardous energy and BS14200 Maintenance of Machinery.
