WJA ends 2024 on high with year of record membership growth
The Water Jetting Association has achieved a record year of membership growth in 2024 – reflecting its continued success in supporting members, setting standards and promoting safety.
The WJA, the member organisation for the UK water jetting industry, grew its membership by 25 percent over the year, adding more new members than in any previous year.
It followed a strong year for growth in 2023, when membership increased by 23 percent.
Strong growth trajectory
WJA Director Leanne Smith said: “New members have joined across all eight of our membership categories, reflecting widespread recognition across the water jetting industry of our work and the value we deliver for our members.
“Awareness of the WJA was helped this year by us holding our first large trade show, which was very successful and which will take place again on 11th September 2025.
“But our growth has been on a strong upward trajectory for the last three years, and there is no sign of it slowing. We’ve worked hard to make it easier to join the WJA and focus our activities on the needs of members, which is showing strong results.”
International membership increase
With more members, the WJA, can drive up standards that support the safest ways of working for operatives, other workers, and members of the public, Leanne Smith added.
Half the new members who joined in 2024 are UK-based contractors, delivering services that included high and ultra-high water jetting, drain cleaning and pressure washing.
The other half include training providers, technical specialists and other industry associations and agencies, plus a significant number of new international members.
Safety agency becomes member
Leanne Smith said: “We’re particularly pleased that the Health and Safety Executive has joined the WJA under our new Blue Chip category, for organisations with an interest in water jetting.
“We’ve worked collaboratively with the HSE as we’ve develop our codes of practice, resulting in the HSE recognising them as the industry standard when carrying out inspections and investigations.
“This is key incentive for any companies involved in water jetting to join the WJA and use our codes of practice to underpin their operational processes.”
The WJA believes significant work to digitise the association’s management systems, including the development of a new WJA app during 2024, will further encourage membership growth.
The new digital systems is helping the association to make applying for membership easier and to add more information services for members, which already include free access to Croner expert advice.
