COVID-19 Notice: Water Jetting Certification Expiry Date Extended
The Ruling Council of the WJA has responded to the latest developments in the COVID-19 pandemic by extending the expiry date for training certificates and photo ID cards until March 31st 2021.
The move gives contractors and operatives more time to arrange Safety Awareness refresher training required to maintain WJA certification.
The expiry dates had been extended to ensure businesses and operatives can maintain their WJA-qualified status during a period when COVID-19 is continuing to disrupt water jetting training.
This gives contractors and operatives more time to make training arrangements while supporting business continuity during the pandemic.
Certification extension form
Operatives who want to make use of the facility must arrange for a WJA training provider to complete an extension form on their behalf. This will then be submitted to the WJA so its international database can be updated.
WJA Director David Kennedy said: “Our approach throughout the COVID-19 pandemic has been to support contractors, operatives and service users in a way that minimises disruption while maintaining the integrity and standard of our training and the safety of water jetting.
“WJA face to face water jetting training was suspended in March this year and resumed on 1st July, in line with government advice on creating COVID-19 secure training environments.
“Since then, our WJA approved training providers and instructors have been extremely diligent and very busy delivering out City & Guilds accredited courses in very challenging circumstances, which has required us to limit to six the number of delegates attending courses
“Working with all parties, our assessment has been that disruption has still been significant, which is why we’ve reviewed our requirements and extended the qualification expiry date.”
Passing the Safety Awareness training course, along with at least one practical module, is mandatory to receive a WJA photo ID card and be entered on the WJA’s international database of water jetting operatives.
To maintain their qualified status, operatives must retake the Safety Awareness course every three years. The certification extension gives contractors and operatives more time to arrange and complete this refresher training.
