Location Unit 4 Napier Building, 2 Reynolds Avenue, Scottish Enterprise Technology Park, East Kilbride, G75 0AF

This course is a 2 day course, covering the modules of Safety Awareness, Drain & Sewer, Surface Prep.

During this course you will undertake a theory test along with a practical test. Once you have passed both tests you will then be issued with a WJA card and granted access to the Codes of Practice.

Safety Awareness Course Outline

This one-day session is aimed at:

 

  • People who operate water jetting equipment.
  • A personal copy of the appropriate code of practice for water jetting “Red or Blue code” is provided during the course and this document is used as a reference throughout.
  • People who manage and design tasks using water jetting equipment.

 

The Safety awareness card / certificate is valid for three years before it needs to be renewed for a further three years.

 

This course provides knowledge and assists in the understanding of water jetting by means of assessments in:

 

  • Theory.
  • Operational skills.
  • Understanding and knowledge.
  • Safe use of equipment.

 

Why is this required?

 

Assists in the compliance with Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 (HASWA 74).

 

High pressure water jetting is very hazardous; therefore, it is a requirement for anyone involved in water jetting to have knowledge and understanding of the hazards involved in water jetting so they can operate safely.

 

The WJA has designed this course as an entry level accreditation applicable to all groups and provides water jetting cards on the successful completion of a multichoice classroom assessment.

Drain And Sewer Course Outline

This minimum 4hrs session is aimed at:

 

  • People who operate drain and sewer jetting equipment.
  • A personal copy of the Drain and Sewer water jetting “Red code” is provided during the course and this document is used as a reference throughout.
  • People who manage and design drain cleaning tasks using water jetting equipment.

 

The safety awareness course must be completed prior to attending this course. The Safety awareness card / certificate is valid for three years before it needs to be renewed for a further three years.

 

This course provides knowledge and assists in the understanding of drain and sewer cleaning by means of assessments in:

 

  • Theory.
  • Operational skills.
  • Understanding and knowledge.
  • Safe use of equipment.

 

Assessments are a balance of theory in a classroom environment and practical using live water jetting equipment.

 

For DSP, training will include carrying out surface preparation using a jetting gun with a protective shroud with hose whip checks for additional safety.

 

The pressure will not exceed 275 bar (4,000 psi) and candidates must be able to comfortably control the jetting accessories, this includes managing reaction force through manual handling.

 

The training does NOT cover works that involves confined space entry into chambers, tanks, wet wells, or vessels. To carry out work in these conditions, operatives must have passed a recognised confined space entry course.

 

The WJA’s aim is to eliminate the use of wash-down nozzles and for operatives to have optimum control over the delivery of water using a jetting gun with a trigger mechanism.

 

Why is this required?

This includes typical hazards, Legal requirements, pre-start checklist, safety devices, competent teams, water jetting equipment, health concerns and typical controls and PPE.

  • A personal copy of the High pressure water jetting “Blue code” is provided for recap refreshers or provided during the Safety awareness course, during the course and this document is used as a reference throughout.
  • People who manage and design drain cleaning tasks using water jetting equipment.

 

The safety awareness course must be completed prior to attending this course. The Safety awareness card / certificate is valid for three years before it needs to be renewed for a further three years.

 

This course provides knowledge and assists in the understanding of surface preparation by means of assessments in:

  • Operational skills.
  • Understanding and knowledge.
